Hilary Bergman, Chief Operating Officer of PFG, also serves as President of First Liberties Financial. Hilary brings over 25 years of diverse financial industry experience, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, and Director of Corporate Finance at Pali Capital, Inc. He introduced numerous revenue generating businesses to Pali, in addition to having responsibility for trading technology and human resources. During his 12 year tenure the firm’s gross revenues grew an average of 20% per year, to $220 million. Prior to Pali, Hilary spent 17 years as a senior executive focusing on the commodities business at FIMAT USA, the futures brokerage unit of Societe Generale, and as a member of the COMEX and NYMEX exchanges, overseeing a 100-person floor brokerage operation. Hilary earned a B.A. from the University of Alabama and holds FINRA licenses 3, 4, 7, 24, 27, 53, 55, 63, 66, and 79.
Robert Shapiro, Chief Investment Officer, also serves as President of Pelion Investment Advisors, Inc. Prior to joining PFG, Bob was appointed by the REFCO Creditors Committee as liquidating CEO and CFO of various regulated non-debtor REFCO entities. Bob successfully transitioned worldwide customer accounts to a new broker-dealer, divested over $500 million of assets and returned over $40 million of assets to REFCO’s creditors. Prior to this, Bob was the Chief Investment Officer of National Investment Managers, Inc., a publicly traded company providing pension and pension administration services. Bob was also Executive Vice President at American Benefit Resources, Inc., where he worked with PFG’s CEO, Udi Laska. Bob spent 25 years at Lehman Brothers, Inc. where he served on Lehman’s executive committee and was Managing Director of Short Term Capital Markets and a Managing Director of Investment Banking. He received a B.S. in Economics from Queens College. He holds securities industry Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses.
Tom Carstens, Sr. Managing Director, directs asset allocation recommendations and investment selection for the firm’s clients as well as supervises money manager and investment product due diligence. Tom is a nationally recognized expert regarding the design and implementation of private placement annuities and life insurance as part of a client’s overall tax-efficient portfolio. He is a frequent presenter on the topics of tax-efficient hedge fund investing and overall portfolio strategies including at the Institutional Investor MARhedge conference, Opal Family Office Forum, InvestmentNews Retirement Income Summit and PPLI/PPVA Forum. Tom was Chief Investment Officer at Lenox Advisors, a firm he co-founded and where he oversaw a $1.2B growth in assets under management. Tom graduated with degrees in Economics, American History and Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania where he founded a male a cappella group and competed on the varsity swimming and club volleyball teams.
